Live & Local

Barossa Live & Local is a 12-month capacity-building program supported by the APRA AMCOS Live Music Office, South Australia’s Music Development Office and Barossa Council.

This program is designed to nurture connections between musicians, government, communities, and businesses by harnessing the power of live music. Our mission is clear: to provide a best-practice framework that elevates live music throughout the entire region. Below provides a glimpse of what this initiative entails:

Conducting a Live Music Census
Establishing a Live Music Consultation Group
Implementing local planning and policy reforms
Hosting a Professional Development Series
Convening a Live Music Forum
Producing multiple Micro-Music Festivals

If you’re interested in learning more about Live & Local, discussing creative ideas for presenting live music in the Barossa or would like to explore how you can further support the future of music within the region, please do come and have a chat with me at our micro-music festival on the 28th October. You can book a time in with me below.

Micro-Music Festival

SATURDAY 22ND APRIL 2023

4pm to 10pm

A Live and Local micro-festival music event activates local businesses within a precinct or local area (both traditional and non-traditional venues) who provide performance space for local musicians. These free events demonstrate the benefits of live music within business premises (at no cost to the businesses involved) and showcase local music that is suitable to each business.

Live Music Census

20th September 2023 to 20th October 2023

Barossa Council is conducting a Live Music Census from 20th September 2023 to 20th October 2023. The Census will support Council to gain a snapshot of what live music experiences take place within our region, where and how often live music is played, as well as what the economic, cultural and social outcomes of live music are during this time.

Professional Development Series

Tuesday 3 October, 3:30pm to 6pm
Wednesday 4 October, 4pm to 6:30pm

Barossa Live & Local partners with MusicSA to create a dedicated professional development program presented by MusicSA’s Industry Development team on topics designed to empower musicians, business owners and curators to grow their business and event skills.
The Music Industry Workshop Series focuses on elevating opportunities and capacity building with dedicated sessions for local businesses and artists as well as networking opportunities.

Live Music Forum

Wednesday 8th November
5:30pm to 9pm

A Live & Local Music forum will be taking place on the 8th November. This is a valuable opportunity to network with government, music industry, council and community to discuss what a thriving live music scene looks like for in The Barossa Council region’s future.

The outcomes of this forum will assist The Barossa Council in the delivery of the region’s Live Music Action Plan as part of Barossa Council’s Community Plan 2016-36 to lead activities that celebrate the history and culture of the Barossa and its people.
